Train vs bus vs taxi — the honest version, verified July 2026. (Prices approximate; confirm on the day.)
Cheapest & flexible: the AREX all-stop train (~₩4,150 with a T-money card) to Seoul Station or Hongdae, then transfer to the subway. Fast & direct to Seoul Station: the AREX Express train (~₩11,000, ~45 min). Lots of luggage and a hotel near a stop: an airport limousine bus (~₩10,000–18,000). Group, late arrival, or door-to-door: a taxi or a pre-booked private transfer. There is no Uber/Grab — locals use Kakao T.
Runs from ICN Terminal 1 & 2 to Seoul Station, stopping at Cheongna, Gimpo Airport, Hongik University (Hongdae), Gongdeok and more — where you can transfer straight onto the subway. About 59 minutes to Seoul Station, roughly ₩4,150–4,750 when you tap a T-money card. The cheapest option and the smartest if your hotel is near a subway line.
Nonstop from the airport to Seoul Station in about 45 minutes, with reserved seats and luggage racks, around ₩11,000. Best if you want a guaranteed seat straight to Seoul Station (which connects to KTX for other cities and several subway lines).
Buses run from arrivals to specific hotel districts — Myeongdong, Dongdaemun, Gangnam, Jamsil and others — for roughly ₩10,000–18,000, taking 60–90 minutes depending on traffic. Great if a stop is near your hotel and you would rather not haul bags through a subway transfer. Check that your district has a stop before you commit.
A regular taxi to central Seoul runs roughly ₩60,000–90,000 plus tolls, about 60–70 minutes outside rush hour (deluxe black taxis cost ~40% more). For zero hassle — especially with a group, a lot of luggage or a late-night landing — pre-book a private transfer online so a driver meets you at arrivals at a fixed price. Locals hail taxis with the Kakao T app (English mode available).
Solo / couple, hotel near a subway line: AREX all-stop train. Staying by Seoul Station or heading to KTX: AREX Express. Two+ big suitcases, hotel near a bus stop: limousine bus. Family, group, or landing after midnight: pre-booked private transfer or taxi. When in doubt, the all-stop train plus one subway transfer is the cheapest and it always works.
